AMD Club3D R9 280 DVI-I?

Hi, i recently bought the Club 3D R9 280 graphics card (not 280X) and i would like to know if i can use a DVI-I to VGA adapter for it. I have a monitor that only takes VGA in but the Graphics card's box says the DVI slot on the card is Dual DVI-D. I did some research and it says that to connect to a DVI-I slot it must have 4 extra pins. On the Club 3D R9 280 it does have 4 extra pins but it says it's a Dual DVI-D. So can i use a DVI-I to VGA adapter to connect my monitor to the graphics card's DVI slot. I'm just very confused and eager to find an answer.

  1. The Club 3D connector is indeed DVI-D which means it's digital only. The port is actually a DVI-I one in physical appearance, but those four analog pins are not wired up internally so they can't provide an analog signal.

They are simply there to accommodate the four analog pins of a DVI-I cable if a DVI-D cable isn't available.

The bottom line with this card is that you can't use a a monitor which has no digital inputs.
  2. I think you can use the display port to vga adaptor ? you may look into that

funny thing is that the 280x and below should come with dvi-I and the 290's are with dvi-d ??

can you give a link to your card the ones I looked at here as far as 280's all come with dvi-I ?? so you should be good .

http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/radeon-r9-280-royalking.html but the appearence of the DVI port has the 4 analog pins so I don't know.
  4. your good its a dvi-I according the the link you gave and the picture it gives under display connections ... also that adaptor you asked about should of came in the box with the card ?

  5. I see now -- the card shows it has a dvi-I but in there wording they say dvi-d -but like I said I never seen a 280 that only came with dvi-d just the higher end 290 and 290x 295x2 cards ???

I don't get that deal hang on
  6. looks like they used a dvi-I port but it also looks like the flat bar part is blocked off -- I think I would avoid that card they screwed with something and is not a true amd speced card some how -- something's up with that club 3d card may better pass on it [opinion]

if you look over all these r9 280 cards you will see they all come with a true dvi-I port and analog support

That's what i didn't get to but i was able to find a monitor in my basement with a DVI-D input all i need is a DVI-D to DVI-D cable but still I don't know if the graphics card has a DVI-I. Can a DVI-D fit into a DVI-I slot?
  8. But maybe like Phillip said it's a DVI-D port but the four analog pins are not wired for analog they're just there to accommodate the four analog pins of a DVI-I cable if a DVI-D cable isn't available.
  9. like I said I would avoid it seeing theres lots of 280 cards that give you there true real specs -- why would you put a dvi-I connection on a card that did not do dvi-I ?? whay sell a card that should support analog native with a dvi-I port but it don't ??

its your call . as for me I'd lok at tthat club 3d card as suspect and move on to a card that has and capable of the cards full support out of the box

do you buy the card so you can support it or buy a card that will support you ?? something just don't add up on that club 3d

    anyway good luck
