PC freezing problems since GPU install, HALP!

Hi All

first build with teething problems. heres my rig:

CPU: AMD Phenom II 955 BE (no oc)
HSF: Artic freezer 13
RAM: (now) 16GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3 1600mhz, auto volts, mem timing set at 1600mhz (2x8gb)
WAS OCZ gold low voltage 1333mhz 8gb (4x2gb) (again manual timings, auto volts)
GPU: Asus R7 260X - DirectCU OC edition
mobo: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 rev5.0
PSU: Corsair TX550M

everything works together, no problems posting, all works great, except the random freezing. menial tasks such as web browsing, generally pottering around windows, no real rhyme or reason, just freezes. but is intermittent. in safe mode all works perfect no hangs no freezing. freezing only happens since with the ASUS GPU installed.

I have found a "fix/work around" online: by using ASUS drivers i can fiddle the memory clock to be a constant 1750mhz. I'm now looking to use my PC for gaming prompting driver updates which brings back the freezing/halting. im in the process of battling ASUS tech support who are blaming the fault on "some" compatibility with other components.

could anyone offer some advice as this is really starting to peck my head as to what's wrong or how to troubleshoot/fix other than bin the card and buy something else.

  1. Oh I forgot to add, stick the card under load and no problems, runs wolfenstein a treat!

only freezing on the menial stuff.
  2. make sure the mb bios is upoated to rule out a bios bug. download from amd the newest chipset drivers for the mb.
    (omega drivers).
