i5 4690k vs i7 4790 gaming 2015
I am between the i5 4690k and the i7 4790k, the difference is 45 euros and i have noticed that the i7 offers higher fps in some specific games and that developers have started recommending the i7 more than ever before, which should i buy?
I'll believe in higher fps count in this cases:
- multiplayer game with lots of information, like Battlefield
- poorly optimized crap, like World of Tanks
And even here we're looking at couple of fps. I call BS on that comparisons.
In any other case, I bet you my 4690, or even 4590 & 4460 will produce the same framerate, because GPU matters much more than CPU. My CPU isn't even fully loaded when I play Witcher 3 on ultra.
OC for performance is in past. Games that use hyperthreading/more than 4 cores are in future. Now, k-versions are pointless, i7 too, better to go with Xeon 1231 v3.
The i7 will be faster than the i5 overall due to the larger onboard cache; but not by much for gaming as 0x1eef said. The hyperthreading doesn't make a difference AFAIK due to no game currently taking advantage of more than 4 cores.
The Xeon that 0x1eef suggested is a very good (and popular) choice as it is not much more than a high end i5 and gives the benefits/performance (and then some) of an i7. The only downside (if you consider it one) is no integrated graphics.
Watch dogs ,dayz, planetside 2 and arma 3.These are the games i will be playing. Games like these love a more powerful cpus as much as i know.
You are right, afaik, Arma/DayZ are CPU-hungry games. You just needn't an OCed CPU for them. And neither do you need SLI, so that eliminates the need of Z-mobos, that's only the preference now. Hence H97, for example, so, locked i7 or Xeon. 1231 v3 is a popular choice today, it has hyperthreading, but look at some tests first, I'm by no means an expert in those games.
