RAM slot channel order Asus B85M-G

I have purchased a computer with an Asus B85M-G motherboard, but the store at which I bought it had pre-intstalled the RAM in the first and second slot. Because of my CPU cooler I can't reach these two slots, but they should be placed in slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 4, according to what I've read online and the color matching of those slots. After mailing this to them, they told me they actually should be installed in slot 1 and 2 in order to work correctly and this was to be found in the manual. The manual told about slots 1 and 2 being A1 and A2 and slots 3 and 4 being B1 and B2, nothing however about having to put the memory in slot 1 and 2 to be effective (or at least most effective).

My question is: does anyone actually know (as I can't test it myself) if the RAM works in slot 1 and 3 and if it actually works better, as should be with dual channel mode?

  1. You are correct, they should be in the slots as outlined in the manual here: http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/B85MG/HelpDesk_Manual/
  2. I already thought this should be the case, considering there is a reasoning behind the different colors on the RAM slots. I couldn't actually find this in the manual though. Is there any source which I can use to convince that they are wrong (they actually used the manual as their source to say it had to be slot 1 and 2 and not 1 and 3 or 2 and 4)?
