Hi all, I bought two new RAM modules for my Asus N61JV laptop, after online research I got two of these: http://www.kingston.com/en/memory/search/?partid=kvr13s9s8/4 . AFAIK there should be no compatibility issues, however, with the new RAM modules installed the system won't boot (displaying the " Windows failed to start. A recent HW or SW change might be the casue" message).
After putting the old RAM in the system run through some checks and repairs and then booted normally.

The new RAMs are higher frequency, but from what I read they should be underclocked automatically. Or could it be I need to do this manually? if so, how do I do it?

Thank you for all suggestions!

"Does it boot with just one? "

No, I don't even get the ASUS logo with one new RAM inserted and the other slot empty. I tried with both slots. All I get is the power button light up and the fan spins, screen is just black. I don't even get to BIOS

"Why diddn´t you buy 2x4GB 1066MHZ DDR3 sodimms?"

Basically because they we harder to find (and more expensive) - from what I understood before purchase, this should not be an issue though.

With both the new RAMs installed i can get into BIOS, it reads "8192 MB (DDR3:1067 MHz)" for Total Memory, not allowing me to do any changes. So it seems the RAMs are running on 1066 and the problem should not be there (my wild guess, I'm not big in IT).

With the new ones put in, the windows startup logo shows for a second and then I get the "Windows failed to start" screen. I'm running win 7 home premium 64.

Your help is much appreciated!

I did not, the system asked me to run some check and repair procedure, I just clicked OK - it took about 15 minutes to finish.

Memtest: I run memtest for the new modules and it always crashed some 22% into the test. Even when I used the troubleshooting step-by-step test, it crashes at the same spot. The same happens when I switch the order of the modules in the slots. For the original RAMs the memtest was okay.

I suspect I'll need to return these guys and get a different (and this time proper) RAM modules, or is there a way to make it work?

Thanks!

I'm going to do that, thanks for all your help! Can you please guide me to which exactly RAM modules should I get? 1066 MHz, 4GB, DDR3 SODIMM. Is there more I should watch for? how about CAS?
