Of course it will depend on the rest of your system. But I just ran it with the rig in my sig below at 8x AA. I got:

Maybe im just getting a low score can anyone with a 980 show me your score. I just got the card today and want to make sure its running good. Im also getting temps around 74 C when running unigine heaven.

forgive me, i thought simply exiting Afterburner was enough to stop overclocking my GPU, but i had to actually reset to default settings within Afterburner. this is more like what is expected.

Min FPS: 29.7
Max FPS: 118.7

Render: Direct3D11

while we're at it, i'm curious. since my overclocked 970 actually scored better than your 290x (assume its stock) at 1080p, can you run it at these settings:

Render: Direct3D11
Mode: 2715x1527 8xAA fullscreen
Preset Custom
Quality Ultra
Tessellation: Disabled

this was my result (overclocked to 1526 MHz core, and 8002 MHz mem)
FPS: 35.4
Score: 892
Min FPS: 23.9
Max FPS: 65.4

Why the weird resolution?

hmm, didn't notice that. it looks familiar, i've seen it in the graphics settings of games i play (when i want to render higher and scale back with DSR). from the Heaven title i selected 2560x1440. maybe it's something with my display? not properly scaling to 1440p?

I think that is a function of the Nvidia driver. I have heard that it will do that. When I set mine to 2715x1527 it reverts to 2560x1440:

In the meantime, I'm going to switch my card to "Uber" mode and see if that makes any difference at 1080p. I'll turn on tessellation this time.

well technically my card was rendering a slightly higher resolution, but the answer is clear - the 290x is better at higher resolutions even at stock settings. what a difference the higher resolution makes. have you manually overclocked your GPU yet? i've read that you don't have much headroom because it generates so much heat

Lol... no. In fact I had to search for where the Uber switch was. I normally leave it on normal mode. I really don't know if it even makes any difference. But now at least I can hear the fan at idle. Yeah, it does really get hot when pushed. It's a furnace. And no, I don't OC that card. It already has a factory OC.
I just ran Heaven again, this time at 1080p with everything maxed out that I could find; Tess. at Extreme and got:
FPS: 56.2
Score: 1416

I can post the screensgot if necessary, but I didn't want to keep cluttering up the OP's post with my results. I feel like we kind of hijacked his post as it is.

with my overclock, i got
FPS:58.8
Score:1482
but i was also getting artifacts at these settings, so i wouldn't exactly count it. think the mem clock is a bit too high. the two are neck in neck, and mine has to be overclocked to compare (though it CAN be overclocked). thanks, just wanted a comparison.

i agree tho, we are off topic. the topic was the GTX 980, but i'd guess that OP is happily enjoying their new card right now, so you'll have to wait for your own comparison, friend.
