what is best? - i7 4790k vs i7 4790 vs i5 4690k, if i'll mostly use it gaming and video editing (on AVID)?

i never overclocked and done know what it does, i mostly game and edit, but when i game i like the game to have a good FPS and my current rig isnt very strong (intel core i5 2400 3.1 GHz), im not planning to upgrade my GPU since its pretty new. i already decided on everything else but i am not sure about the CPU. what benifits does each one have in terms of gaming and in terms of editing?

  1. If you plan some editing i7 would be a better choice. If gaming is your main thing, i5 would be just as good.

Ancient has it right. the i7 has hyperthreading which is extremely useful for video editing. If you are not doing any of that, go with the i5.
  3. If all you're going to be doing is editing video and gaming, are you also going to overclock? If you're gonna overclock go i7, editing once again i7, gaming it shouldn't matter. But video editing whatever the i5 would've done in 1 hour the i7 would've completed in 40 mins. Theirs a 20 percent diff in efficiency.
