Peltier Plate Cooling

Would a peltier plate work as a sort of heat sink for a cpu? I know that as heat is absorbed by the cool side, it diffuses to the hot side in a peltier plate. If it is possible to insert between the cpu and cpu cooler, would the temperatures be to extreme for surrounding components?

It has been attempted. Didn't take off for practical reasons, mostly that the cool plate tends to get condensation all over it, and it required some good amount of insulation to make it work. I remember reading about some experiments with this about a decade ago...
  2. Thanks for the quick response. I don't really want to get into insulating components at the moment.
  3. Submerged in cooled oil messy and not cheap but effective
