My motherboard detects my HDD but windows 8.1 doesn't?

My motherboard is the ASRock Z87 extreme3 i am running windows 8.1 64 Bit on it, i have just plugged in my 1TB WD Blue Hard Drive, windows dosen't see that it is connected to the PC even though my UEFI shows that it is connected, how can i rectify this?

    It may be that the HDD has not been partitioned. If so then you go into Control Panel, click onto Administrative Tools and then click on Computer Management. You will need Administrative Privileges to partition the hard drive. After this is done you will need to format the HDD.
