Ram and motherboard OC

So i recently got this RAM
http://www.amazon.co.uk/G-Skill-RipjawsX-F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL-PC3-14900-1866MHz/dp/B004JM1ZG8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1421282426&sr=8-3&keywords=g+skill
This is my motherboard
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H61USB3_R20/overview/

The problem is that this RAM runs at 1866mhz however my motherboard is only recognizing it as 1600mhz, I tried using the overclock tool within the BIOS and tried using the XMP profile instead of auto default option at both 1866mhz and 1800mhz.

Another thing is that the motherboard says 1866mhz RAM will run at 1800mhz due to CPU behaviour, I tried running it like this and it restarts and then says overclocking failed.
Any help would be great thanks.

  1. Well..your board not support higher than 1600mhz ram speed. When you use 1866mhz ram ,your motherboard would decrease your ram
speed. If you want 1866mhz ,maybe you should pick z77 board. But I think 1600mhz would be enough ,you don't really need 1866mhz ,just increase a little bit performance.:)
  2. From the link above.
The motherboard supports DDR3 memory that features data transfer rates of 2200(O.C )/2133(O.C )/2000(O.C )/1866(O.C )/1600/1066/1333 suppor MHz
Does this mean because it says OC that it doesn't properly support 1866mhz?

    Which cpu you have?
"1600MHz and higher frequency is supported by Intel® 3rd generation processors."
  4. I have a i5 3470

Maybe you should add a little bit ram voltage.

DDR3-1600 8-8-8-24 1.50V would probably be best for that CPU and mobo combination.
  7. Thanks for all the replies ill give that a go gskill rep.
  8. So I had a few issues regarding overclocking my motherboards BIOS doesn't give me a option to change the RAM voltage I can change timings and frequency but if i change from 1600mhz frequency my PC doesn't boot I can lower the timings but I cant set them to 8-8-8-24 the lowest the timings go is 8-9-8-25 any help would be great.
  9. Can you post pictures of BIOS?

Did you set Advanced > AI Tweaker > AI Overclock Tuner > Manual ?
