MSI Z97 zero CPU temp in BIOS

Hi folks.
I recently finished a new build, speced with:
- MSI gaming 5 mobo
- i5 4690k CPU
- stock i5 cooler (for now)
I was gaming recently and noticed my CPU temps go up to 87 degrees on assassins creed unity (badly optimised game I know). No other game eats so much CPU temp.
Anyway, whilst adjusting the stock fan settings in my BIOS (as the curves are awful), I noticed the BIOS was reading zero degrees for the CPU temp, even though hwmonitor and real temp read the temps OK in windows.
I then updated the bios and reset it,yet it still reads zero. Although I continue to monitor the temps in windows and the fan rpm increases when under load, should I be worried that the BIOS is reading zero?

Solution
Since the CPU temp is suspect, I'm afraid I'd be inclined to RMA the motherboard at this point. There's no way the CPU/core temp should be that high. Either the BIOS is providing false info or the cooler is not mounted correctly.

Yeah its interesting. The mobo seems to work OK on everything else, no issues at all. But I am rather confused why no temp is showing in the BIOS. It worries me as I wonder how it controls the fan.

Just for the heck of it, you could switch the case fan header with the CPU fan header and see if the BIOS still shows "CPU" fan at 0 RPM.

Or leave the CPU fan header empty and see if the PC will boot to BIOS. (plug the cpu fan in a case fan header so it runs) Technically, it should not start or give a warning if it doesn't see a fan in that header.

OK, so i did some changes...
- I set the fan rpm manually to full in the bios and it spins at full. The settings stick even when i boot to windows.
- I then put the fan curve back on in the bios and monitored the rpm's in windows when stress testing. Basically, when the CPU temp goes up, the fan rpm's stay the same (do not increase). CPU reached 90 degress C.
- I then just used the MSI command centre to manually control the fan in windows

So basically what i've established is:
- The BIOS reading 0 degress C for CPU temp, is actually truly controlling the fan based on this (not upping fan speed when under load)
- HWMonitor/realtemp, both read CPU temps in Windows, but i have to manually override the BIOS in Windows to control fan speed

Very strange, is this a MOBO problem? is there a setting in the gaming 5 mobo to allow CPU temp reading? Confused

After numerous tests this week. I am certain the BIOS is giving a false temp within the BIOS setup. I still don't understand why windows shows all the core temps and they are all accurate. Very confusing. Only thing left to do is try re seating the CPU and see if it does anything.

Just to let everyone know for closure. I managed to replace the motherboard like 4 like, and the issue is no longer there. BIOS reads CPU temp and controls fan properly.
Faulty motherboard BIOS after all.
Thanks for the support.
