Should I switch to Intel for $400

I have $435 CAD on my hands and I had a plan to get a new mobo. I was going to get an ASUS rog: crosshair V formula-z for my FX 6300. But then I asked my self if I shoud switch to Intel instead. Get an i5 4690k and an Asus z-87 mobo. I am really puzzled and don't know what I should do. Anybodys opinion would be much appreciated.

P.S. I got the h100 water cooler by corsair for Christmas so I'm planning on overclocking the hell out of my CPU.

Z87 boards may need a BIOS update for compatibility with Haswell Refresh CPUs. Some may come updated already but we've seen a lot of boards that created nightmares for their builders on models that didn't have something similar to ASUS flashback where the board could be updated without an installed CPU. It's just a safer bet to go with a 9 series board and avoid any complications.

The Z97-A is a solid choice with good thermals and overclocking potential. It might not have all the pretty colors of the ROG boards and might lack a couple of higher end features like integrated wireless, but overall, it's a very good board.
  2. I have the 4690k and the Z97-A and imo the board looks stunning with the all over black and the sexy ASUS logo. I think it looks better than a lot of mobos with crazy colors. Anyways, appearance aside, it's a good board, I got it for $100 during this year's Black Friday sale on Newegg (combo with 4690K). Other alternatives are the UD3H, Gaming5, and Extreme3/4, up to you.
