NEED to upgrade, but I have a strict budget.

I NEED to upgrade my cpu and motherboard on a budget of strictly what I get by selling them + selling old 6670 + $30. I have a $50 bid for the mb and apu combo on ebay, and no bids yet on the 6670. I'll probably get $100 max for both. I need something that won't bottleneck my 7970, and can handle newer games like advanced warfare, bf4, thief, etc. Any ideas? I'm thinking about waiting for cyber monday, so some things may be on sale. Don't be afraid to name some items that are slightly over budget in case they go on sale.

Thanks for any help!

More about upgrade strict budget
  1. On such a low budget Pentium G3258 and ASUS H81 motherboard which should allow overclocking the pentium. However it will also cost you more than 100$ around 120-130 and if you add a CPU cooler it'll go to 150.

    Sorry for the long delay, I just found my REALLY old secret stash of money... :) My budget is now around $160 MAX. I was looking at getting a Fx-6300 and an ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0. Both from ebay. Opinions? Again, as I said in the original post, I need something that won't bottleneck my 7970, and can handle modern games like Thief, Advanced Warfare, BF4, etc.

    Thanks!
  4. I'd say that's about as good as you can do, but you can get both of those parts for $160 brand new without going through eBay:

    It would definitely be nice to get them brand new, but it all comes down to budget. That being said, how long would the cpu and mobo last before I'd need to upgrade? Hopefully at least a year? Thanks!
  6. That would be a good choice however at stock speed FX-6300 will bottleneck that 7970. So add an aftermarket cooler and overclock later on to remove bottlenecks.

    If I had to go with a fx-4300 at $70 due to budget, what motherboard would I need to get to be able to overclock it to a reasonable point? How much would I need to overclock it, and would the games above be playable on default speeds? I'm ok with going down to high/med settings, and I'm not playing at 1080p, just 1600x900.

    Thanks!

    You'll need a min of this--> http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-ga970aud3p
    OR The ASUS M5A97 EVO or PRO (Do not get the LE or normal one)
  9. So....60 days ago, you had a $5,000 budget for "Can this out-beast other pc's?"

    And today, you have a ~$100 budget for new GPU.

    Hah, yeah. The $5,000 budget was actually for a friend. With all the expensive parts it was really fun to build, and he game me $50. :)
