Raw Read Error Rate Failure and Pending Sectors

Look, here's the thing: I'm not an expert in the "HDD Field", I just turned my laptop on and saw this warning about hard disk, downloaded an HDD diagnostic (HD Tune Pro) and scanned my laptop. In the health tab, there were two errors:

Raw read error rate: Current: 100, Worst: 62, Threshold: 60, Data: 0, Status: Failed
Current pending sectors: Current: 100, Worst, 100, Data: 8, Status: warning

I also scanned it with Active@ Hard Disk Monitor, it too shows the Raw Error Rate a varying number from 90-100%, and there's a changing high Raw Value too, but estimates "Health Status" as "OK".

So what? Out of work? Hmm? What should I do? I'm getting a backup of my files right now, what after that? What if I don't replace the HDD?

    I'd like to, but I can't afford a new drive right now. I just wanna know, what will happen if I just let it be? Something worse than data loss? Why isn't it already down?
  3. I don't understand why HD Tune is failing the RRER attribute. The Worst value is still above the Threshold, so, strictly speaking, the drive hasn't failed, especially since the raw value is still at zero.

    The Current pending sectors count of 8 may in fact represent 8 logical sectors which would correspond to a single physical sector in an Advanced Format drive.

    That said, the initial warning, if it came from BIOS or the OS, would suggest that the drive should be replaced, or at least relegated to storing non-critical data.

    Could we see the SMART data? Some tools allow you to copy the data to the clipboard as text, in which case you could use Ctrl-V to paste it into your next post.

    They are reported by HD Tune Pro. I can no longer use the Active @ DiskMonitor, it says that there is no computer connected and I think it means the problem got spread. Here's the result according to CrystalDiskInfo

    Raw Read Error Rate 100 62 62

    The threshold is 62, not 60 as you stated in your opening post. That's why the drive is deemed to have failed.

    The Reported Uncorrectable Errors are of concern, too.

    I wouldn't trust this drive.
  6. It was a mistype, sorry. And I don't trust it, too. That's why I copied my datas to my desktop and not gonna use the laptop 'till I get it a new drive. Still I wanna know a couple of things and the topic is over, why did it happen? It was something like my fault? Or just bad luck? And what is the worst scenario if I use the laptop? The drive will be completely down? Is it likely for other parts to be affected?

  8. Hmm, and what about the other question? What is exactly wrong with it? The hard drive became a rebel and the datas are unstable and these kinda thing, right? It's ok if I connect an external drive to lap top and consider the internal as secondary storage and...?

    Assuming you're using Windows, that won't work. You can't put the OS on an external drive.

    Well....you can, but it's a real PITA.

    The only 'portable' Windows I am aware of is Windows to Go, available with Win8 Enterprise.
