Wd 1tb hdd with 2 partitions one drive showing another not ,both not working and making pc freeze !

few days ago suddenly my pc freezed without any reason .I thought must be some virus or my windows 8.1 got corrupted .
My wd 1 tb hdd has 2 drives one of them is D and another is L .
When I opened my computer/explorer it takes too much time just to show drives .I can open D drive and see all the files but when i try to access files my pc freezes .and about another drive which is L - I can see L drive in explorer but there are no details af drive and its not accessible .
but when I remove this wd 1tb hdd from my pc - unplug power or sata cable , my pc works fine .
when I tried to open disk management , disk management doesnt open even crystl disk freezes .
so what is the resolution ? i have almost 1 tb important files there .

  1. Hi

Download WD data lifeguard for windows diagnostics
See if fault is hardware or software

If hardware problem and if a few bad sectors they may be fixed temporally
More serious problems and you need to consider if cost of professional data recovery service is required for valuable data

If you can't afford professional data recovery then there are a small number of cloning programs which can carry on after finding bad sectors instead of crashing
Ddrescue is one I am aware of in Linux and windows versions

Once cloned disk is available work on clone with data recovery programs like TestDisk/PhotoRec from www.cgsecurity.org
    Recuva and many others

Toms hardware has done articles on hardware data recovery companies

U-Tube has a number of videos on subject

  2. well I hear you . but the thing is I have downloaded wd data lifeguard , but when my 1tb wd hdd is connected wd lifeguard does not open . when i shut down my pc n remove hdd then wd lifeguard opens . same with disk management . and now my D drive is also not opening n showing no information in explorer .
  3. Hi

Then your hard drive is beyond help by ordinary users and technicians
Either get a quote from specialist data recovery companies if data has significant value or just buy a new hard drive.

  4. Hi
I had a kind of this problem . After trying different solutions, I found out that that was due to power supply. After replacing a new one the problem was gone!
you could give it a try
  5. Hii

I read the full description of your problem:
*here are some of solutions you can try:

ill suggest you to check the power supply or the SMPS of your system, may be its not able supple enough power all the time...
check out the power cord you connect to that harddisk...
if you have multimeter check for exact voltage delivered through that power cable...

but when I remove this wd 1tb hdd from my pc - unplug power or sata cable , my pc works fine .

your description from above line itself indicates in-appropriate power supply to your harddisk...

  7. Hi

I suggest you get a USB tray put bad drive in it and connect and run WD data lifeguard for windows
See if drive is reparable or not

I am currently looking at a Toshiba laptop with Toshiba 120GB hard drive

I can not boot up laptop with a bootable DVD or USB disk
( Linux or windows PE )
until the hard drive was removed then the laptop boots up .

I need to find some diagnostic software which works with Toshiba drives
WD data life guard confirms disk has bad sectors but can not repair it

You need to see if psu or dying hard drive is your problem so a USB tray or USB to sata bridge chip will sort out where the problem lies
