Suggestions on upgrading my Gateway E-4300's CPU, Ram, and maybe graphics card?

The PC is a Gateway E-4300 small form factor. The PC came with Windows XP Pro and worked with my HP 2009m Monitor but when i tried Windows 7 the graphics were stretched and I could not get the 1600 X 900 resolution I needed and the PC was also very sluggish I tried to fix the resolution but nothing would work I assume this is because the ancient integrated graphics do not have a Windows 7 driver. I would like to get the PC working with Windows 7 Home Edition.

CPU Specs:
-CPU: Pentium 4HT 3.20 GHz 64-bit
-CPU Socket: LGA775
-Chipset Type: Intel 915G Express
-FSB: 800 MHz

Ram Specs:
-Ram Installed: 1GB (2 X 512MB)
-Maximum Ram: 4096MB
-Slots: 4 (2 banks of 2)

Graphics Specs:
-Type: Integrated
-Graphics Processor: Intel GMA 900 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 3.0
-Video Interfaces: VGA

This is similar to mine:

The computer studders when playing 720p HD videos. Would a new processor and graphics card help this? If so, could you recommend some i could install in this computer and please provide links? Help with Ram choice would also be helpful.

I was looking into this Core 2 Duo or something similar:

Thank you so much any help is greatly appreciated.

  1. What motherboard you got? make and model
What power supply? make and model

    What budget?

I think you'll have to replace cpu, motherboard and ram. Maybe power supply too. Then put a graphics card in. Which might mean a bigger case.

In other words - a whole new pc.
  2. I think this is the motherboard E210882

I have a feeling you've already got the best cpu that will go on that motherboard.

I don't think you can upgrade any part of this. I think you need to get a new pc.
  4. i was just hoping that something dual-core could work for it doesnt have to be super fast i wanted to see if i could just get a cheap used core 2 duo or something like that from amazon to speed it up a little bit
  5. As the guy said "It's a Dimension 4700 board - single-core Pentium4 or Celeron, Socket 775, desktop CPU.

NOT supported: any dual core (Pentium D) or any Core-derived (Pentium Dual Core, Core 2 Duo, etc). or any mobile CPU."

Time to think about a new pc.
  6. Mine is not a dell dimension it is a gateway e-4300 and i already have an acer aspire 5437z and an eMachines t5452 which both have windows 7 for my good computers. i was just wondering if i could fix this one up. it runs good with elementary os luna which is what it has now. it can keep up with 10+ tabs in google chrome and it loads a 480p youtube video fine. if i max out the ram to 4gb would i be able to install a new graphics card
  7. Is it pcie2.0?
