How do i overclock on an H97 PC Mate motherboard

I just got an i5 4690k and i'm trying to figure out how to overclock it. For some reason it won't let me change the cpu frequency past 3.9 ghz, which is what the turbo boost frequency is. I don't think it's applying the overclock either because when i launch pcsx2 to test mgs3 it says my cpu speed is only 3.5ghz

  1. You must have a Z87 or Z97 motherboard to overclock the CPU.

why is that? it says it's "OC CERTIFIED"
  3. You might have to OC through software while windows is running. Give that a shot, I know, it sux, but on some boards that weren't specifically made for overclocking, that's the only way to do it. Personally, not that familiar with that particular board.

It must be a pretty new board 'cause i can't find a whole lot of information on it. I think it has OC GENIE. You think i should try that? 'cause i don't feel like looking into overclocking software right now. I was hoping to just be able to overclock it straight out of the box.

I'd say give that a shot, if all it does is overclock the BCLK then you prolly need to hit up the software end of it. I have a gimped ASUS P8P68 LE motherboard that's crap for overclocking, you have almost no control over anything, but technically, you can overclock, so they do throw that in even if you have to gimp it they can say you can overclock. But ya, that's a new chipset board and everything, it won't take long before they're coming out with bios updates though and word gets around on how to do stuff with it.

apparently your first response was correct. i did some more searching and it turns out that the h97 doesn't support overclocking. the manual says OC Certified, but it's a manual for both z97 and h97 pc mate motherboards. so this will be the second motherboard i have to return.... i don't get why it has an OC genie mode if it can't overclock though. it can't really do anyting accept overclock the ram, which i have to set at 1333mhz manually anyways since it gives me bsod at any higher speed.

Highlight cpu ratio hit enter try using + or - keys if that won't work after you hit enter ,enter the value manually ie 43 etc
the legend says to use +or- to change values or page up or down but on my z97 pc mate I have to enter the numerical value. Might need a bios update also.
    hope this helps.
