Overclocking my i5 3330

I was looking at user reviews for the 3330 and two people wrote that they were able to overclock
their 3330's to 3.6ghz from the original 3ghz, I was just wondering if such a increase would be possible and what cooler would I need to achieve this. Thanks

  1. The only way to overclock a non-K CPU is to raise BCLK but since BCLK is used to generate nearly all other clocks in the system, BCLK overclocking will be limited by your component with the lowest tolerances. Usually, this limits BCLK overclocking to 5-7%.

As for what sort of HSF you need to achieve that, the stock cooler should be enough since the maximum achievable overclock might be limited by your mouse not liking the 7% higher USB clock.

non k intel voltage control is locked so even with a Z mobo you are limited to increasing the bclk from 100 to higher values 30 x 120 = 3600Mhz . doing that stresses a great deal not only the cpu but all other installed mobo components, so even with sufficient cooling results in instability issues and the risk of killing even your hdd/ssd(s)! i wouldnt try such overclocking!
  3. ok, thanks for the intel guys I'll leave it alone and save for an upgrade.
