Hello,
I am new to OC. read some online and watched in you tube.
1st attempt
just raised the CPU clock rate to 40.
then booted to the system. all good.
But Vcore was 1.345 according to CPU-Z, Is that bad?
2nd attempt
CPU base clock 125Mhz
CPU clock rate to 34
CPU vcore 1.250V.
this time I had a boot failure.
any chance I damaged the CPU?
what and how should i proceed till I can find my safe and stable OC ability on my 4770K
PSU 600W
MB GA-z87-hd3
any more info I can provide to get your advice?
PS in bios on default settings I see:
CPU core frequency 3900
CPU vcore : 1.152V
CPU VRIN: 1.752V

With unlocked processors such as yours focus more on the CPU multiplier. And start with a small overclock then start working your way up. I doubt you damaged it you just set the cpu base too high and it couldn't start. That cpu should be able to handle 1.445 vcore under 90 degrees celcius at load. firstly you got it all wrong. o/c is achieved through increasing the unlocked multiplier, not the base clock of the cpu.increasing that you also overclocking the memory. if to be change that would be only 1-3Mhz. leaving voltage on auto will always give more than it actually needs to be stable.
Fist of all you must have an aftermarket cooler and a reliable and capable psu.whatever you do, always constantly monitor your temps using core temp , real temp or cpu hw monitor. all cpu are different so all o/c ability is different too.also depends on the mobo. just increase the multiplayer (which all intel cpu's are meant to). dont mess with the bclk leave it to 100 x multiplier = ghz. first off all use manual voltage and leave it at default. increase the multiplier by 1 and try 4.ghz run prime 95 for at least half an hour.if it is stable then increase further the multiplier and run prime 95 again. this way you will determine the cpu limit with stock voltage. when you get an error or restart or something on prime 95 then increase voltage by 0.005v till you stabilize it.depending on cooler you can achieve 4.3-4.4ghz or even higher. try not to pass 1.3v cause things get really nasty with the temps.better try not to pass 75c if you are aiming for a 24/7 use. also when o/c cause you overvolt the mobo vrm's (voltage regulator modules) you must have good tower ventilation and air flow.

Hey,
I did 4 Ghz
V core was 1.208.
Run prime 95 blend test.
Got around 70c with spikes of 77c.
Is that ok?
When run small FITS test temps are high around 90c. So I stoped.
What do you think guys?
Is blend test enough?
Also went to 4.2 mhz.
V core I left on auto, checked and it was 1.350. When run prime 95 test blend v core went to 1.4xx.
What should I do? How can I test and control the vcore.

do you have the cooling potential it needs for o/c.?? as i mentioned erlier an aftermarket cooler is needed.
leaving voltage on auto will always give more than it actually needs to be stable and will result on very high temps. switch to manual vcore, increase by 0.005v

Hey,

restarted to bios and saw that Vcore was 1.345V.
then I restart to windows, BUT my usb mouse and keyboard wont work.
tried all ports nothing works.
any Idea what happened?
is it possible i damaged cpu or MB?
how can i fix it, in bios usb mouse and keyboard work, when in WIN it won't even after i set clock back to 35.
any ideas?

I did try to load optimal defaults a few times.
this time it worked, I will see if all workes with my bios settings.
How can test that all is working fine?
one more thing I did aginst your advise is:
put multiplier to 43.
CPUZ showed vcore 1.348 and when i ran prime 95 blend test for 2 min my temps were 90-100c and vcore 1.410.
so i guess I need better cooling, right?
also what should i do to find my stable OC speed?
and how to set Vcore? should i put manual 1.350 and lower it down till it works or put 1.250 and go up till it work.

One thing is your system is running too hot for your over clock but you should know, no 2 processors are alike and they sometimes are not good over clockers. This might be the case here. Sorry man. At least you got your system back.

getting my Noctua NH-D14 hope this helps me with temps.
seem like up to 40-41 my vcore is up to 1.2XX and temps are up to 75c on prime blend test.
small FFT test CPU is around 90-100c....
beyond that temps are high and vcore 1.3xx-1.4xx
what should i do to find the base stable OC at this point?

well full specs also include tower and since we are talking o/c , cpu cooler which is obviously the stock one which isnt sufficient and you still insist on overclocking. what can i say!!!!?please dont.!you need something like this to proceed http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-r....

sorry my cooler is no stock is Cooler Master Hyper N520.
case is Corsair Carbide Series White 500R

Got my new cooler Noctua NH-D14. installed and temps look better.
Now if I understand you correct.
Put 4ghz at stock voltage.
now stock vcore in the bios is 1.152 and in other place 1.144.
So I need to manually putt 1.152 and from there increse by 0.005V till i am stable.
then put 4.1ghz and increase by 0.005V till I am stable.
also, If i am stable at 1.152 can I decrease to see if i am stable?
while maintain my temps.
now which prime 95 test to run blend or small FFT?
UPDATE:
I am on 4ghz with manual Vcore of 1.152V (cpuz show 1.151)
running prime 95 blend test for that past 15min
Temps are between 55c-63c.
UPDATE 2:
running for 30 min, looks like the test puts heavier pressure on CPU compared to the test in the first 15 min.
now temps are 65c--75c-80c (one core war 85C)

ok you got it right man.! dont get overexcited though and as you increase speeds and vcore also increase stress test time. to be sure for the stability. use blend test cause also tests memory. also besides the stress test also run your games and try to stay on each o/c state for a day or two, to ensure its good performance.!and keep the temps below 75c

I am on 4ghz with manual Vcore of 1.152V (cpuz show 1.151)
running prime 95 blend test for that past 15min
Temps are between 55c-63c.
UPDATE 2:

now temps are 65c--75c-80c (one core war 85C)
first test 448K ( 9000 lucas-lehmer iterations)Passed. this is the first 15 min with temps up to 63c
second test 8K (800000 lucas-lehmer iterations)Passed. this is the next 15 min with temps up to 80c
thired test 512K (7800 lucas-lehmer iterations) running. this is the now with temps up to 60c.

ok you have a stable o/c . i ve seen better temps for such volts! keep in mind though that real word games-aplications wont run 100% of the cpu so you will get lower temps.anyway improving your tower airfolw may also result in lowering temps by 1-2c. find a comfortable o/c spot and monitor through stress test and gaming the temps for couple of days to achieve a more accurate reading! also you can try installing an extra fan on 212 evo for push pull configuration!
