Asus x55a boots only to bios

I have the same laptop with the same issue. Have sent it to ASUS for diagnosis. The hard drive controller died. Need to replace the motherboard. It is 6 months out of warranty. Going to cost $400.

I believe this is a manufacturing fault / common component failure, now 4 cases found on various forums.

I intend to talk to ASUS about having them cover the repair cost.
