Hi everyone, new around here, but have been running through the forums looking for answers here and everywhere for my problem... without any answers.

So here goes: I bought a Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB GDDR5 last week and ever since I've installed it my PC has been restarting when I try to play any game - from World of Tanks to Crysis 3. I tried a solution some friend told me which consisted on underclocking the GPU to 900 MHz. It restarted. I tried 800 MHz. It restarted.

My system it's as follows:

AMD FX 8120 3.1GHz 8-Core PCU
Seagate 1TB SSHD
Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB GDDR5
16GB RAM Corsair
550Watt PSU.

Please help me with this, I'm getting really frustrated. I can tell for sure it isn't a bad hardware issue because I know 2 more people who had this error with the same graphics card. But their solution was to set the clock to 1000 MHz and everything was fine.

Solution
6008 is hardware failure but can be PSU or card. Since you have a low quality PSU I would try replacing it with a quality unit before blaming the card for it.

Not sure if is this you're asking for but # 2621 LPG12-35E 3*SATA 1*PCI.

I have a cousin who has a 750W gaming PSU and he still had the same problem, but he just had to turn on Overdrive on 1000 MHz

Well that PSU is not exactly quality but the ratings on it should be enough for the card. If it just restart straight away you enter a game I would say PSU issue but if you can enter game and it crashes with restart then it could be faulty card.

I can play like 3-5 minutes of Crysis 3 or even less but then it just restarts. With World of Tanks it seems like it's random... sometimes 1 - 2 hours, other times 20 minutes. Isn't there anything I can try before I send it to warranty?

Thank you for your quick answers.

I'm thinking about trying the graphics card on my brothers PC and their 7850 on mine. I'll let you know of what happens. Thank you very much for your help so far.

I've done it and guess what... their PC is still running Far Cry 3 perfectly with my 7870 and when I put 7850 here, PC restarts. We can now most definitely say it's a PSU error, right?
