Rad space recomendation

Hey everyone, I'm building my first water loop, and am looking for rad expertise. I'm planning on cooling a overclocked 4770k, and possibly the voltage regulator and chipset on the motherboard. (mainly just for looks). the board is the formula vi. I was going for a lower db build. Although it doesn't have to be completely silent. I was hoping a single 360 would be enough to keep things cool. Of course if I end up cooling the gpu down the road I would add another 240. If it matters at all, i will be setting up a fan curve using the asus software. I was planning on using a water temp sensor connected to the motherboard.

Here are the items in question:

the rad would most likely be a xspc ex360, however, I also looked at something like the EK-CoolStream RAD XTX, or the Black Ice SR1 360

The fans would most likely be the noiseblocker e-loops 400-1500 rpm pwm. However, I also checked out scythe's gt pwm fans. The only thing i didn't like about them was they had a range starting at 1000 rpm and going up. Which seemed a little high. I have heard that the e-loops make a weird sound due to their design when put in pull, so If i went with the thicker rads they would have to be the gt's for fans, since the thicker rad will not fit in the very upper part under the plastic hood where the stock fans can go. It would have to go above the motherboard. The case is the phantom 820 just so you know. (I hope that makes sense!)

The cpu block would be the ek supremacy, and the motherboard blocks would be this:

p.s. Does anyone have a good way of routing the tubing through the chipset block? i've been trying to think of ways to make it look good, just not sure since the gpu will be right there.

    A 360mm radiator would be plenty for a CPU and motherboard, thickness wouldnt matter too much I think.
    I advise against using the stock water-cooling options on the mobo (the Crosschill or Hybrid Water solution or whatever they call it) as its made of Aluminium, a metal that you don't want anywhere near your water-loop due to its high potential for corrosion in the presence of typical water-cooling metals like Copper and Nickel.

    Routing the tubing. I would go...
    Loop -> South bridge -> CPU -> VRM -> GPU -> Loop
    Thats what would be the most pleasing aesthetically I think, as tubing isnt crossing anywhere. Only potential problem is how long your graphics card and how high your RAM is for the tubing run between Southbridge and CPU.
  2. I agree! I'm planning on going with the Ek waterblock for the motherboard, as it looks great and will give me peace of mind. I was thinking it would be enough. Just wasn't sure about it since the cpu will be overclocked quite a bit. Assuming I can get a decent clock off haswell!

    Do you have any experience taking off the stock motherboard heatsinks? Fairly easy?
  3. The only motherboard heatsinks I have messed with have been on cheap, old and dead motherboards, mainly just pulling them off out of curiosity for whats underneath. No idea how it will be, though I imagine it wouldn't be that difficult.
