Installing Windows xp onto an SSD but getting a blue screen and an error message.
jmailangi
I just finished my new build
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 ATX AM3+
CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600
GPU: Galaxy GeForce GTX 660 Ti 3GB
Storage: Samsung 840 Pro SSD
and now im trying to install windows xp onto the SSD. It will copy some files over but when it says "Windows is Starting Up" it changes to a blue screen saying that an error has been detected 0x0000007B (0xF78DA63C, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I've done nothing else with the SSD. ANy help would be much appreciated.

Make sure your mb bios is updated and the firmware on the Ssd.
With older os like xp you may need to do a f6 custom install for the newest amd and nvidia and other chipset drivers. Also with xp and ntfs and Ssd you have to run an allinemnet tool there few free ones but one should be on the Ssd tools. -
If the bios has the sata ports set to ahci be sure to install the drivers during the xp installation process otherwise set the sata ports to ide or compatability mode (whichever you have) and install xp normally.

You MUST have created an aligned partition before installing XP.
There are many ways to do this. The simplest is if you have access to a Windows 7 disc.
Boot the Windows 7 disc with the SSD connected as if you were going to install Windows 7 to the disk. Once you arrive at the drive partitioning section, create your partitions how you see fit. Once finished, exit the installer and power off.
Swap the installer discs so the XP CD is now in the drive. Run the XP CD. Once you get to the partition selection section, choose the partition you want to install to and use the option NTFS quick format.
You can also insert SSD in a USB SATA disk enclosure and format NTFS partitions using Windows 7 with 4K unit size.
