M-ITX vs M-ATX?!?

Hi, I recently decided to make the jump to PC gaming. It needed to be small quiet and powerful, while picking my parts I came across a dilemma. Should I go with M-ATX or M-ITX?

M-ITX is smaller but it's also more expensive and it's not that great for future expandibility.

M-ATX is slightly larger but it's cheaper than M-ITX and motherboards that are compatible with this form factor have more than one PCI-E slot.

I have chosen parts for two builds, one is a M-ATX build and the other is a M-ITX based build. I would appreciate any tips you can give me. Keep in mind that it needs to be small but I want to have more than one PCI-E slot in case I want to do SLI/Crossfire later on. Thanks in advance.

  1. If you want a 2nd pci-e slot go with the M-atx buid. Also check out the Corsair 350D case.

mITX is great if you want a portable system in a small form factor.

mATX is great if you want a smaller system with a bit more expandability but you don't want to deal with having a full tower.

Thanks, I'm leaning toward the M-ATX just because of the extra PCI-E slots but also because its cheaper and, while bigger than M-ITX it's still pretty small.

Yeah the one thing you have to be aware of when building an mITX rig is the heat issues. The smaller cases allow for heat to build up way more easily than anything else.
