Given the dubious legal and ethical social status that efforts like Napster and Scour are suffering from, readers might have been surprised that Intel executives would call up the guys who wrote Aimster, the Napster clone shielded inside AOL's Instant Messaging environment. A writer for Salon.com has provided a somewhat conspiracist analysis pointing out that peer-to-peer networks will require even more and more powerful computers in our homes. Intel embraced P2P at the Intel Developer Fourm where the chipmaker's technology chief Pat Gelsinger suggested that peer-to-peer computing might rival the Web browser in importance to the Internet.
