Analysts say Rambus will win

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Several leading financial firms are telling their clients that Rambus Inc. has a very good chance of winning its lawsuits and forcing virtually the entire PC memory industry to pay it royalties. Rambus is involved in suits with memory makers Hyundai MicroElectronics, Infineon Technologies AG, and Micron Technology Inc. over the company's ownership of key elements of SDRAM, DDR DRAM and their interface technologies.

Analysts UBS Warburg as well as Morgan Stanley Dean Whitter have repeated "strong buy" recommendations while Chase Hambrecht & Quist has given Rambus a "buy" rating. Some analysts believe that Rambus legal wins could earn the company as much as $1 billion in retroactive royalties and give it unprecedented control of the memory market.
