Analog Devices' Decoder For DTS 96 KHz, 24-bit Multi-Channel Audio
Analog Devices just let us know about a digital audio decoder for DTS 96/24, the new 5.1-channel high-resolution audio format for DVD-Video from DTS. The company says its Melody DTS 96/24 decoder enables installed DVD-Video players to deliver multi-channel sound at a 96 kHz sampling rate and 24-bit word length, along with full-motion video. When encoded in the video zone of DVD-Audio discs, DTS 96/24 is said to deliver 96/24 audio resolution DVD-Video players, eliminating the need for a separate DVD-Audio player. DTS 96/24 soundtracks, on either DVD-Video or DVD-Audio, are backward compatible with existing DTS decoders, which will read and output a 48 kHz signal. The Melody DTS 96/24 decoder has currently found a home in new A/V receivers from Denon and Pioneer. The SHARC DSP-based decoder also decodes DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 in each of these A/V receiver models. Analog Devices' Melody DTS 96/24 decoder can be ordered under part number ADSST-PEGASUS-SDK for an evaluation board with an evaluation copy of the software and schematics for $1,250 in single quantities.
