Washington (DC) - Specialty mobile service provider Amp’d Mobile may face a fine of up to $100,000 after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) claimed the company failed to follow privacy security guidelines.
The federal organization requires phone service providers to have adequate safeguards in place so that users’ phone records can’t be easily acquired by data thieves. In an official notice to Amp’d Mobile, the FCC claims such procedures were never put into place.
The commission gave Amp’d Mobile 30 days to respond to the fine. In a response, the mobile service provider, which caters to the younger demographic, said its practices did not violate FCC guidelines.
The FCC proposed identical fines to Alltel, AT&T, and Cbeyond Communications in January for the same reason.
