AMI's 12-Drive Ultra160 SCSI Systems
AMI just let us know that it is shipping the first validation units of the StorTrends 1312, a 3U 12-drive Ultra160 SCSI NAS or JBOD (just a bunch of disks) systems. I swear that JBOD acronym cracks me up. Beats my previous favorite: POTS. Both versions of the StorTrends 1312, in various configurations, will be available August 15, 2001 for between $3,479 and $5,559 - not including drives, CPU, and memory. StorTrends 1312-J is AMI's 3U Ultra160 SCSI storage solution with 12 hot-swappable drive bays, three hot swappable power supplies, and two hot swappable dual-unit fans. The chassis also includes two AMI backplanes (series 906) with six Ultra160 compliant (Ultra320 ready) slots, single-channel and IPMI support. The 1312-N is similarly equipped but includes the StorTrends 1100 sled with AMI's Indium NAS controller. The 1312-P includes the StorTrends 1100 and AMI's custom-designed NAS software with Network File Protocols (CIFS, NFS), Network Transport Protocols (TCP/IP) and Hardware Health Monitoring. All of the AMI software resides on a network upgradable flash memory device, which leaves the hard drives available for user data.
