Many Americans don't care about the Internet - survey
Culver City (CA) - Popular websites likes YouTube, eBay and MySpace are visited daily by millions of Americans, but according to a new survey released by Parks Associates, many American households could care less about the Internet. The annual National Technology Scan survey showed that many households don’t have Internet access and that an even larger percentage aren’t even interested with the Web.
According to the survery, 29% or 31 million homes in the United States have no Internet and those residents don’t intend to subscribe to any access for the next year. In addition, 44% of households aren’t interested in any Internet content.
Some of those Internet abstainers, some 14%, say they do all their Internet surfing at work and have no need to buy access at home. 22% say they just can’t afford access while 17% say they aren’t sure how to even use the Internet.
But there is a silver lining in the report for Internet addicts, the number of households with broadband access grew from 42% in 2005 to 52% in 2006.
