America's Army Cost Taxpayers $32.8 Million
Your tax dollars at work.
U.S. Army projects cost money, usually lots of money. And if you're a U.S. taxpayer, that's your money.
America's Army, the free to play shooter that is ultimately a recruiting tool for the Army, is funded by tax dollars. GameSpot uncovered through a Freedom of Information Act request just how many dollars the project has commanded over the years.
Note that the original America's Army for PC launched in 2002, but investments and development started in 2000.
America's Army year-by-year budget summary
2000--$3,500,000
2001--$5,600,000
2002--$1,862,985
2003--$2,600,000
2004--$3,866,482
2005--$1,288,552
2006--$4,050,748
2007--$2,788,137
2008--$3,887,450
2009--$3,395,702
In total, that adds up to $32.8 million over the last decade. Do you think that it was money well spent? Why or why not?

not really no since i live IN THE UK
"Your tax dollars at work." means nothing to someone whos paying in ££££££
this website really needs a overhaul and its staff re-educated in the difference between AMERICA and UNITED KINGDOM
That doesn't sound like much at all, especially given that at least 17.5% of every £ spent by us is taken by the government. It varies though, adding other taxes on, including income taxes, you're easily talking 40%+ of our income goes right to tax.
Well, I'm talking about the _U.K_. Don't give a damn about the US.
In South-Africa the only place our tax money goes to are for expensive luxury vehicles and redonkulous holiday trips to Paris for government officials... Our resent "Arms Deal" made more millionaires inland than the arms deal was worth.
Guys... Shall we write an official complain to THG? I am fed up with this shit as well...
C'mon guys.. We all know the world revolves around the big US of A...
PSYCHE!
Yes propaganda is expensive! No I couldn't care less about American taxpayers!
@ Tom's UK - Black Friday, AA news etc. really is of absolutely NO interest to europeans.
So some of the articles are not relevant or interesting to you, dont read em so and maybe stop complaining.....f***ing whinge bags.
I find this article interesting even though I dont live in the states. I often go onto the US website because they dont unclude all the interesting articles on the .co.uk site.
Well they are not my tax dollars anyway, but if they were then I wouldn't be too happy. It's not the kind of thing that should be tax funded.
Everybody seems to forget that teh aim of the game is to interest people to join the army.. I assume that as advertisement it was more than worth getting new recruits in... Especially in an era where you actually have to go to war as a soldier instead of just having them pay for your education and career.
Nice Work America. Good to see you're spending your money well
this is just a drop in the ocean for defence budget spending in the US, I'm sure many more millions go down the drain in worse/less effective causes than this. Its a great way of viral marketing for the army
