AMD updates Athlon 64 and Opteron Revision Guide
Sunnyvale (CA) - AMD posted a new version of its Athlon 64 and Opteron Revision Guide which lists processor errata, guides to correct errors and workarounds. The June guide recommends BIOS updates to avoid a bug related to REP MOVS instructions which could result in incorrect processing results.
The document Rev. 3.25 lists erratum 109 which addresses a bug discovered in AMD’s labs several weeks ago. According to the company, specific succeeding instruction may cause single data sets to be skipped which potentially could result in calculation errors and ultimately system crashes.
The error is considered to be minor and rare. The company said that the REP MOVS instruction issue only has occurred in a testlab environment. According to AMD, mainboard and BIOS manufactures have received guidelines how to correct the error. Users who are concerned about the error are advised to contact their mainboard manufacturer for a BIOS update.
