AMD to fight against Intel's P4s with new K8-core processors
Facing fierce competition from Intel's Pentium 4 platform, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) recently introduced new processors based on its 64-bit, 8th-generation (K8) core. Raymond Lee, vice president of AMD Asia Pacific, said that the K8-core server processors will be named "Opteron" and desktop processors "Athlon."
