AMD Shows off 12 New Mobile Processors at CeBIT
AMD raised the bar for mobile processors today with its release of twelve new mobile processors for light and thin notebooks and for high-powered notebooks.
AMD is partnering with notebook manufacturers Fujitsu Siemens Computer Consumer Division, Sharp Corporation and Epson Direct to provide extended battery life and lightweight portability solutions needed in wireless technology. The Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors include the 1800+, 1700+, 1600+, 1500+ and 1400+ with micro PGA packaging for the thin and light market.
In addition AMD also announced new mobile processors for the high performance segment as well. These new processors will feature 640 kB of full speed on chip cache. The AMD Athlon XP-M 2600+, 2500+, 2400+, 2200+, and 2000+ will be targeted at the users who need the highest levels of performance. The 2400+ and 2200+ will be available in both a desktop replacement and mainstream notebook form factors.
The mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors are compatible with AMD's socket A design and will support the advanced 266MHz front side bus. The low-voltage version of the mobile Athlon XP-M are pin compatible with the socket A processors, but will be packaged using the smaller uPGA package. All of the XP-M processors will be manufactured using AMD's 0.13 micron copper process technology in the Fab 30 in Dresden, Germany.
