AMD PC processor chief leaves

Just when Advanced Micro Devices seems to be hitting its stride, producing faster and more reliable chips than its archrival Intel, the head of the PC chip division has left the company. Larry Hollatz joined AMD in 1991 as VP of embedded products division and took over the PC products division in 1995. AMD told CNET News that the company plans to ship 3.6 million Athlon and Duron processors this quarter, twice that shipped in the previous quarter. Intel, on the other hand, is having trouble delivering, and recalling, its fastest chips. So far, no reason has been given for Hollatz' departure.
