AMD mobile March

Sources close to the deals have confirmed to an IDG writer that Advanced Micro Devices' Athlon processor will show up in Hewlett-Packard and Compaq notebook PCs, probably in March. The use of the mobile Athlons in HP and Compaq products is yet another milestone passed for AMD, that has lacked until now a chip capable of challenging Intel in the notepad arena. Though AMD has not talked, a source says HP will use a 900-MHz mobile Athlon, while a Compaq source confirms plans for a chip at least as fast.

A principal analyst at Mercury Research says, "The key to penetration in the corporate space is getting one or more of the large tier-one vendors to use the products."
