AMD market share up

AMD put out a release today stating its claim to having increased its market share despite the adverse economic conditions.
AMD showed global, year-to-year market share gains in some strategic segments in the second quarter of 2002:
- Among consumers buying Windows-based desktop and mobile computers for their homes, AMD's market share increased from 25 to 27 percent.
- Buyers of desktop and mobile computers in medium-sized and large businesses boosted AMD's market share from 14 to 15 percent in medium businesses (500-999 employees), and from 7 to 8 percent in large businesses (1,000 or more employees).
- AMD's market share of Windows-based government desktop and mobile computers grew from 16 to 18 percent.
- In the worldwide market for mobile computing processors across all segments, we doubled AMD's market share, from 6 to 12 percent.
Meanwhile, IDC puts the estimtate for the total market, based on estimates for the second quarter of this year, at Intel 82%, and AMD 16%.
