AMD expects earnings to be down "significantly" for Q4
AMD said that it expects operating income in the fourth quarter of last year to "be positive, but down significantly from third quarter operating income of $68.4 million". The mandatory business update also stated that the quarter ended December 26, 2004 will show revenues slightly up from the $1.239 billion reported in the third quarter.
According to AMD, the Computation Products Group (CPG) continued its upward trend with sales expected to increase compared to the third quarter. While the CPG is expected to be profitable, the company expects lower sales and an operating loss for the Memory Group due to "a competitive and challenging NOR Flash memory market".
In a previous business outlook the company expedted "overall sales to increase" and "flat-to-up Flash memory sales".
AMD will report its fourth quarter 2004 results after market close on Tuesday, January 18, 2005. (THG)
