AMD delays 1.3 GHz Athlon
Advanced Micro Devices has held back the release of the 1.3GHz Athlon, which had been expected to hit the market Tuesday. EBNews' Jack Robertson reports that AMD President Hector Ruiz explained to an investment gathering that benchmarks run by Tom's Hardware Guide as well as PC WorldBench 2000 tests demonstrate that currently available 1.1GHz and 1.2GHz Athlon processors outperform the Intel Pentium 4 1.5GHz systems.
An analyst with Needham & Co. noted that there is little pressure for AMD to rush faster chips to market as long as current Athlon processors compete well against the Pentium 4.
