AMD counters with 850MHz Duron

by - source: Tom's Hardware

According to a story on Tech Web, a newly released 850MHz Duron by Advanced Micro Devices Inc. will cost $149, though The Register says the chip is already listed on Pricewatch at $107. This release counters Intel Corp.'s Celeron 800MHz with a 100MHz front side bus that was released last week. AMD is also cutting prices on both its Duron and Athlon lines to clear its slowest chips from supply lines. AMD spokespersons have emphasized that a significant number of motherboards with the Uniform Memory Architecture, needed to take advantage of the Duron, are now shipping. The UMA includes graphics and system memory to reduce costs.
