AMD appoints new president
AMD has recruited the head of Motorola's semiconductor business, Hector de J. Ruiz, to take the post of president and chief operating officer.
The 22-year Motorola veteran effectively becomes heir apparent to AMD's chairman and CEO W.J. "Jerry" Sanders III, who plans to step down at the end of 2001.
The move ends AMD's search to replace Atiq Raza, who abruptly resigned last July amid one of AMD's biggest financial losses.
