AMD announces Hammer delay
Advanced Micro Devices has admitted that its 64-bit Hammer core would be delayed until the second half of 2002. At least one analyst says that the schedule slip will not seriously affect the chipmaker. The Hammer processors are intended to capture market in the lower-end of the server market while its closest Intel Corp. competition, the Itanium processors, are aimed at midrange servers.
