AMD aims dual-processor Athlon at Intel gap
InfoWorld is reporting that Advanced Micro Devices plans to sell dual-processor Athlon chips for workstations and entry-level servers before year's end. AMD's first foray into dual-processor market, the new Athlon will support DDR SDRAM memory using AMD's 760 MP chipset, and run initially at speeds well beyond 1GHz. Pricing will reflect AMD's intent to provide superior price performance compared to Intel's Foster Pentium 4/Xeon chip. The Foster, InfoWorld reports, will debut at 1.4GHz and use Rambus memory.
