AMD 1GHz Athlons really 1.5GHz chips?
Tony Smith of The Register reports that Advanced Micro Devices may already be shipping 1.5GHz Thunderbird Athlons labeled as either 1GHz or 1.33GHz chips. One overclocker says Athlons that will exceed 1.5GHz have been selling for weeks that require only standard cooling at the higher speeds. According to the story, only chips with AXIA batch code are so overclockable, but AZIAs may also have potential.
