Amazon to Launch Online Clothing
In a project developed under the code name "Ruby," Amazon.com launched a preview version of its online clothing store to select Amazon customers via emails sent by Amazon's President, Stephen Bezos. The site reportedly will feature clothing and accessories from over 400 name brand clothing retailers, including Nordstrom, Eddie Bauer, Gap and Target. The site is not accessible yet to the public from Amazon's home page Web site, but can be accessed by the public at www.amazon.com/ruby . According to Forrester Research of Cambridge, Massachusetts, online sales of clothing and related accessories are predicted to grow from $4.2 billion in 2001 to $5.2 billion in 2002, and by 2007 are predicted to mushroom to $22.5 billion. Mr. Bezos appears to once again be ahead of the curve and at the right place and the right time.
