Amazon.com ships 108 million items during 2005 Holiday season
Already in its 11th year, online-retailer Amazon.com was first to announce some facts about its Holiday sales. More than 108 million items were ordered and "more than 99 percent" of those were shipped in time to arrive for Christmas, according to the company. The most orders on a single were received on Dec. 12, when 3.6 million items were ordered.
Top-sellers were video games - such as Mario Party 7 for Gamecube, Sid Meier’s Civilization IV for PCs, and Microsoft’s Age of Empires 3 for PCs - Apple’s iPod, portable video game devices such as the Game Boy Advance SP, the Playstation Portable and the Nintendo DS. Most popular software titles included Top Software titles included QuickBooks Pro 2006, TurboTax Total Tax Solution Deluxe 2005, and Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0. The most expensive item sold through the firm’s website was a $94,000 pair of diamond earrings, Amazon said.
