Alpha `Til 2007: Roadmaps
We've all been wondering how the heck Compaq intends to transition its Alpha platform over to Intel and neither company has had a lot to say about the matter. If you remember, back in June , we learned from an internal Compaq newsletter that AlphaServers would be manufactured by the company until 2008 and supported until 2012. Based on some roadmaps that The Inquirer got to peek at, that might not be too far from the truth. The transition period from Alpha to Itanic stretches all the way through 2007, at which point the servers should have Intel inside. Other interesting tidbits include a Linux/Tru64 Unix Affinity roadmap, TruCluster roadmap, and information about the evolution of Alpha-based operating systems. Plus, we learn a bit about Mike Magee's study habits.
