Alienware licenses motherboard tech X2
Alienware today announced a licensing program for X2, its proprietary technology for including multiple x16 PCI Express expansion slots on a single motherboard. This license is being offered through Alienware Labs Corporation, the research and development arm of Alienware Corporation.
Potential benefactors of the X2 technology include professionals in the modeling and simulation industry as well as those working with animation and rendering. Professional consumers who work with digital content, video and audio creation will also benefit from X2, Alienware said. "The need for X2 definitely exists," said Frank Azor, Senior Vice President, Alienware World Wide Product Group.
One of the first customers of the program is motherboard manufacturer Iwill USA. The technology competes with Nvidia’s Scalable Link Interface (SLI) announced in June of this year.
