Alienware intros AMD-based SLI PC system
Miami (FL) - PC maker Alienware extended its systems offering dual graphic cards with the AMD-based Aurora 7500 model. The company previously had introduced an Area 51 Intel system equipped with SLI components.
Alienware danced at its own party by being the only large manufacturer that offered a PC with dual graphic cards based on Nvidia’s SLI technology in combination with an Intel processor. While Nvidia said that it went "out of its way" certifying Alienware’s Intel system as "SLI Ready", the PC maker now offers what Nvidia imagined for its technology : The Aurora 7500 integrates Nvidia’s nForce4 chipset and AMD Athlon 64 processors.
The standard system is priced at $2250 and includes an Athlon 64 3000+ processor, 512 MByte memory, two GeForce 6800 GT graphics cards, an Alienware-branded cooling system, an 80 GByte harddrive and a DVD burner. Checking the options list frequently can escalate the price to an area well above $5000. The Intel-based Area 51 ALX SLI ist priced at slightly more than $6000.
