AgoPC lowers price of UMPC by $200
AgoPC has reduced the price of its Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) "Ago7" from $1000 to $800. The device is built around a 1 GHz Via C7-M processor, 512 MB of system memory, a 40 GB hard drive and a 7" LCD that has a resolution of 800x480 pixels.
AgoPC CEO David Carroll said that "at this price point, those new to the platform will find a high quality UMPC like Ago7 very attractive." According to Carrol, Carroll noted that ago7 now costs nearly $200 less than an identically configured model from their competition.
However the competitive positioning may not be enough to win over UMPC customers. At $800, the device costs nearly twice as much as some entry-level notebooks or high-end smartphones. While the device includes 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capability, it lacks increasingly important wireless connectivity features such as GPS and WWAN.
